The Church Beside Works of Mercy: Metropolitan Mihailo at the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Red Cross of Montenegro
At the invitation of the organizers, His Beatitude the Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro † Mihailo attended the solemn academy marking the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross of Montenegro, held at the Government House in Cetinje.
This significant jubilee, bearing witness to a century and a half of service to one’s fellow human being through acts of mercy, solidarity, and assistance to those who suffer and are in need, is a reminder of the deep Christian roots of compassion in our people. Founded in 1875 under the patronage of Metropolitan Ilarion, the Red Cross of Montenegro has from its beginnings carried the seal of a spiritual calling — to recognize a brother in every neighbour, and to understand service to another as service unto Christ Himself.

Metropolitan Mihailo expressed his gratitude to the hosts who, through the work of the Red Cross, preserve the spirit of compassion, charity, and care for every person.
Alongside church representatives, the solemn academy was attended by state officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of humanitarian organizations, and numerous guests, whose presence testified to their respect for the mission of the Red Cross of Montenegro — the oldest humanitarian institution in the Balkans.
The Montenegrin Orthodox Church participated in this jubilee with joy and reverence, in prayerful conviction that the spirit of goodness, self-sacrifice, and love for one’s neighbour, with which the Red Cross of Montenegro has been imbued since its founding, will continue to shine as an example of true Christian service.
